A Life-changing year in The Netherlands.

By Yusuf Aulia Rahman

My name is Yusuf Aulia Rahman, MD., an internal medicine specialist currently pursuing both MSc in International Health at KIT Royal Tropical Institute Amsterdam and Tropical & Infectious Diseases Consultant Program at Universitas Indonesia School of Medicine. These endeavors reflect my dedication to addressing the underlying causes of infectious diseases after witnessing the suffering and untimely deaths resulting from severe inequities in HIV care in Lampung province, Indonesia. During my learning time in KIT, I have met many great worldclass lecturers, most of them taught
subjects based on their previous experiences working on the real worlds problem solution. This has made learning process so interesting and easy to comprehend. They are also open to future networking and collaborations

Learning in the settings of world best city also gives me firsthand experience on the value of development on all aspects of living. How development can make good life without the necessity of having a lot of personal possessions. How development can reduce the inequities among people, allowing them to grow their fullest capacity. How city development does not necessary eliminating other existing wild lives. During my journey in The Netherlands, I have learnt a lot from so many people from various background that many times happened to be completely different from my point of view. And the most important, I have proven that kindness is a universally accepted language in any race,
culture, religion, and political group of human kind.

I have been always committed to establishing a network of comprehensive yet small-scale hospitals across the province and the country. These hospitals will serve as centers for providing the latest treatment technologies, educating healthcare professionals in infectious disease management, and fostering international research collaborations. By pursuing these goals, I aim to promptly alleviate the suffering of individuals amidst the complex web of relationships among stakeholders in Indonesian health system. I will resume my already-started-efforts soon after returning to Indonesia.
